Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly decided to run in the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for March 15-17 next year. This decision, reported by various news agencies on Friday, marks a pivotal moment that could extend Putin’s enduring hold on power.
The revelation came during an awards ceremony at the Kremlin, where Putin informed Lieutenant Colonel Artyom Zhoga, a Russian military officer, about his intention to participate in the forthcoming elections. State-run news agencies quoted Zhoga expressing the widespread support for Putin, stating, “We are very happy that the president heard our request that he run. All of Russia supports him.”
Despite the absence of a formal announcement from Putin himself, the head of Russia’s upper house of parliament, Valentina Matvienko, affirmed the president’s commitment to responsible decisions. “Our President has never avoided and does not avoid responsible decisions,” Matvienko stated, emphasizing Putin’s acknowledgment of a historic choice and challenge.
