A pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye has been named as the new Soun of Ogbomoso.
Kingmakers led by Sobalaje Otolorin installed Olaoye at the palace on Friday.
Other traditional throne rites have already begun.
The new Soun arrived in Ogbomoso via private jet from the United States on Friday.
Olaoye is succeeding Jimoh Oyewunmi Ajagungbade III, who reigned for 48 years. Oyewunmi died in December 2021 at the age of 95.
Olaoye is a descendant of the late Oba Laoye Orumogege. Orumogege is the 9th Soun of Ogbomoso, from the Baiyewuwon ruling house of Aremo House, Ode-Aremo, Ogbomoso.
He is the pastor of the RCCG, Jesus House in Washington, DC.
A high court in Ogbomoso, on Thursday restrained Makinde, the state’s attorney-general, the commissioner of local government and chieftaincy, and their agents from presenting any instrument of office or issuing a certificate of installation to Olaoye, pending the outcome of a suit.
The order was issued while the court was ruling on an ex-parte motion in a suit filed by Muhammed Kabir Olaoye, one of the candidates for the Soun of Ogbomoso stool.
