Innocent Ogbu, Deputy Superintendent of Corrections (DSC) in the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), has been released after six days in captivity.
Rabiu Shuaibu, spokesperson for the NCoS in Niger state, confirmed the development in a statement made on Sunday.
The top prison official was reportedly released on Friday night.
He is receiving medical care in Minna, Niger’s capital.
On November 23, Ogbu was kidnapped, along with 15 other passengers on a commercial bus bound for Enugu.
He was due to attend the DSC development course at the correctional training school in Enugu.
The abductors were said to have demanded N10 million in ransom from the family of the prison official.
It remains unclear if the ransom was paid.
Shuaibu did not confirm the release of other travellers.
