President Bola Tinubu has appointed Major-General Adamu Garba Laka as the new National Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, operating under the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Major-General Laka’s appointment comes with a wealth of experience in combatting terrorism, particularly in the North-East region of Nigeria. During his tenure, he implemented tactical strategies aimed at dismantling terrorist groups, demonstrating his commitment to national security.

Beyond Nigeria’s borders, General Laka has also contributed to international peacekeeping efforts, serving in Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo under the United Nations. Additionally, he played a vital role in the Nigerian contingent during the US AFRICOM exercise in Senegal.

With a solid educational background complementing his practical experience, General Laka holds Master’s Degrees in National Security from the National Defence University in Pakistan and in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy.

President Tinubu expressed confidence in General Laka’s ability to lead the National Counter-Terrorism Centre effectively. The President emphasized the importance of preemptive, proactive, and diligent coordination in combating security threats, highlighting General Laka’s role in achieving this goal.
