President Bola Tinubu has appointed DIG Johnson Babatunde Kokumo (rtd) as the new Coordinator of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons. This appointment falls under the purview of the Office of the National Security Adviser.
DIG Kokumo (rtd) brings to this role a wealth of experience garnered over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades in law enforcement. With a strong background in crime prevention, management, analysis, and control, he is poised to lead the charge in addressing the pervasive threat posed by illicit arms circulation.
Previously serving as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police for the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department at Force Headquarters in Abuja from 2022 to 2023, DIG Kokumo (rtd) has demonstrated his capabilities in handling complex security challenges.
President Tinubu has expressed confidence in the ability of the new Coordinator to leverage his vast expertise towards revitalizing the Centre and devising innovative strategies to tackle the root causes of arms proliferation.
