Nigeria’s permanent representatives to the United Nations (UN) in New York and Geneva have been exempted from the recall of ambassadors.
The presidential spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, revealed this shortly after the directive recalling all ambassadors.
Ngelale stated on Saturday that the exemption of the representatives is due to the upcoming UN General Assembly.
He added that the ambassadors’ recall is effective immediately.
“The president’s directive is sequel to his careful study of the present state of affairs at Nigerian Consulate Offices and Embassies worldwide. And also, in line with the president’s renewed hope agenda,” the statement reads.
“The president is determined to ensure that world-class efficiency and quality, will henceforth, characterise foreign and domestic service delivery to citizens, residents and prospective visitors alike.”
Earlier on Saturday, Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar announced that the president has ordered the recall of all career and non-career ambassadors serving in various countries.
The decision was made just 24 hours after the president recalled Nigeria’s High Commissioner to UK, Sarafa Isola.
