The Lagos police command has released all arrested protestors to commemorate the fourth anniversary of #EndSARS.
On Sunday, demonstrators gathered at the Lekki tollgate for a memorial rally but were met with resistance by armed police officers.
The police officers then fired tear gas canisters to disperse the protesters.
Defiantly, another group of protestors gathered at the tollgate moments later to resume the memorial walk.
Police officials stationed at the tollgate arrested approximately 20 people, including Taiwo Soweto, a leader of the #EndBadGovernance movement.
Hours later, human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong confirmed that all demonstrators had been released.
Effiong tweeted:
“We have secured the release of all the 22 activists who were arrested this morning at the Lekki Toll Gate while commemorating the 4th anniversary of the Lekki massacre.”
“We discussed with the commissioner of police who came over to the state CID regarding the matter.”
Effiong stated that the goods seized from the demonstrators were also restored to them.
