Yesterday, the Edo State Police Command showcased Victor Ochonogor, a 400-level University of Port Harcourt student, as a prime suspect in the murder of his girlfriend at his residence in Benin City.
Victor Ochonogor, a suspected ‘Yahoo boy’ (internet fraudster) has reportedly stabbed his girlfriend to death in his Benin City apartment.
The event reportedly occurred at 10, Osahon Street, Ogheghe Quarters, situated off Sapele Road in Benin City.
Ochonogor and his deceased girlfriend had allegedly confined themselves inside the house when the violent incident happened. The police were informed of this tragic occurrence by the landlord.
During the presentation of the suspect at the police headquarters, Commissioner of Police Dankwara Mohammed disclosed that the incident was reported to the police at around 4 pm on Monday, August 21, 2023, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement.
Regarding the incident, the murder suspect, 25-year-old Ochonogor, mentioned that he had been in a relationship with his now-deceased girlfriend for three years. He further explained that she had traveled from Asaba to Benin to visit him and, during their time together, she accused him of being involved in kidnapping.
The University of Port Harcourt undergraduate of Applied and Industrial Chemistry Department, said he was angered by that accusation.
“I have been dating her for three years now and she accused me of being a kidnapper. I asked her why must she accuse me of such when we have been together for such a time?
“I am not a Kidnapper and some of the members of her family know me very well. They accused me of being a kidnapper, how can a kidnapper be dating somebody?” he asked rhetorically.
Ochonogor said he did not kill his girlfriend because he was jealous that she wanted to get married to another man.
The commissioner of police, Dankwara Mohammed said the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution.
Mohammed also urged the public to provide crucial information that could help them prevent and address criminal activities.
