Their arrest was prompted by the discovery of blood oozing from the trunk of their car. A video that has been circulating since the incident shows the three clerics displaying the head and other body parts of the alleged victim.
One of the suspects, Taofeeq Kabelohun, was serving as the deputy imam (Mufasir) of the Orisun Awotan Central Mosque in Awotan, Ido local government area, Ibadan, prior to his arrest.
Another source in the community revealed that the two suspects, Kabelohun and Muibi, have been arrested multiple times for similar offenses, including incidents at Peace Estate and Adaba community along the Apete-Akufo road.
“These people have been arrested more than twice on this same issue, and they are living in our midst, one at Peace Estate and the other at Adaba,” he said.
The latest arrest occurred when they were allegedly attempting to remove body parts from a grave in Ibadan.
In response to the allegations and the arrest, the leadership of the Orisun Awotan Central Mosque has taken action, removing Taofeeq Kabelohun from his position as Mufasir and revoking his membership.
The mosque has also installed Mallam Abdulhakeem Abdulrasheed as the new Mufasir.
The communiqué reads, “That Taofik Kabelohun should be removed as the Mufasir of Orisun Awotan Central Mosque. Henceforth, he is no longer the mosque member.
“This is due to his gross misconduct and the recent alleged murder case he is involved in. However, the stakeholders unanimously agreed that Mallam Abdulhakeem Abdulrasheed should be installed as the new Mufasir of the mosque with immediate effect after today’s Jumat service.’’
