Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, embarked on a visit to Mangu Local Government Area following recent attacks on several communities. The first stop on his itinerary was Kwahaslalek community, where a tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday night during curfew hours, resulting in the loss of thirty-one lives, predominantly women and children.
Governor Mutfwang expressed his heartfelt condolences to the affected community members and offered prayers for the souls of the departed. The governor, visibly moved by the somber atmosphere, emphasized his commitment to restoring peace in the region.
Reports indicate that assailants struck Kwahaslalek on Tuesday night, targeting residents who had gathered in a compound to adhere to the government-imposed curfew. The attack claimed the lives of over 30 individuals, with a significant number being children and women. Besides the tragic loss of lives, houses and property were also destroyed in the onslaught.
Joseph Gwankat, the President of Mwaghavul Development Association, confirmed the details of the attack, highlighting its occurrence during the curfew imposed by the government. The gravity of the situation is underscored by the additional attacks on Kinat and Mairana, two communities on the borders of Mangu and Barkin Ladi local government areas on the same fateful night.
Sources report that Sabon-Gari and Mangu were not the sole targets, as the attackers unleashed terror on multiple communities. The wave of violence has left the affected areas grappling with not only loss of life but also extensive damage to property and infrastructure.
