The Peoples Democratic Party‘s National Working Committee (NWC) has rescheduled the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for March 13–May 15.
Sunday Udeh-Okoye, the party’s national secretary, announced the postponement of the NEC meeting in a statement posted on Sunday.
Udeh-Okoye stated that different party organs, including the board of trustees (BoT), governors’ forum, and national assembly caucus, were contacted before the NEC meeting was rescheduled.
He explained that the postponement would allow the party to complete the upcoming zonal, state, local government, and ward congresses.
The NWC, led by Umar Damagum, the acting national chairman, has postponed the NEC meeting three times since September 2024, a decision that was rejected by the board of trustees.
The NEC is the PDP’s highest decision-making body, consisting of state governors, serving and former presidents, former vice presidents, the chairman and secretary of the board of trustees (BoT), principal officers of the national assembly, all state chairmen, members of the national working committee (NWC), former governors, and founding members, among others.
Section 31 (4) of the PDP constitution requires that a NEC meeting be held every three months. However, the last NEC meeting was held in April 2024.
