PDP govs meet Wike over political crisis

Governor of Bauch State, Bala Mohammed (L) and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, along with other governors, held a meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in Abuja to address the political situation in Rivers State.

The meeting, which took place on Wednesday afternoon, included Governor Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Governor Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), and Governor Kefas Agbu (Taraba). The mediation session was arranged after discussions among the governors the previous night.

The primary focus of the meeting was to reconcile the issues between Nyesom Wike and his successor in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The situation between the two leaders has garnered significant attention and was deemed necessary to address for the party’s unity and political stability in the state.

Additionally, the meeting aimed to foster reconciliation between the FCT minister and the PDP. Nyesom Wike appeared to be at odds with the party following the fallout of the 2023 Convention, where Atiku Abubakar emerged as the party’s presidential candidate for the February 2023 election.

The discussions are part of ongoing efforts to ensure party cohesion and address internal conflicts within the PDP as it prepares for the upcoming electoral challenges in 2023.
