The Peoples Democratic Party criticized the APC-led Federal Government for raising fuel price from N534 to N617 per liter.
In a statement, the opposition party condemned the increment as provocative and worsened the economic situation.
The party insists the N617 per liter is excessive and unjustified considering the country’s economic potential.
The National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, described the price hike as provocative and extortionate.
The party asserted that the N617 per liter fuel price is excessive, unacceptable, and unjustifiable, considering the economic potential and prospects within the country.
“It is appalling that instead of seeking ways to stabilise and grow the economy, the APC administration has abandoned the welfare of Nigerians which is the primary purpose of government under Section 14 (2)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and left the citizens to the vagaries of market forces and exploitative cabal; a disposition that is characteristic of a government that is not accountable to the people.
The PDP is concerned about the APC’s poorly planned policies causing economic damage. The naira value is dropping, businesses closing, citizens struggling, and basic necessities becoming unaffordable.
The dire situation in Nigeria is attributed to APC‘s insensitivity, corruption, and lack of economic management capacity.
The current state is worse than before, with no hope in sight.
The PDP criticized the governing party’s justification for the fuel price hike. They stated that it’s indefensible to compare Nigeria’s situation with other countries that have better infrastructure and higher earnings.
The PDP believes that with proper resource management, fuel should not cost more than N150 per liter in Nigeria, even without petroleum subsidy.
