The Ondo House of Assembly has confirmed Olayide Adelami, a former National Assembly deputy clerk, as the state’s deputy governor.
On Tuesday, the Ondo state government announced that Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the state’s governor, has nominated Adelami as his deputy.
The position of deputy governor of the state had been vacant since Aiyedatiwa was sworn in to replace the late Rotimi Akeredolu, the previous governor.
Adelami is from Owo LGA in the same state as the late Rotimi Akeredolu, the former governor.
Ebenezer Adeniyan, the governor’s chief press secretary, stated that the House of Assembly would announce Adelami’s nomination following screening and ratification.
Adelami retired as the National Assembly‘s deputy clerk in April 2018.
Adelami was confirmed during a plenary session presided over by Olamide Oladiji, the speaker of the House.
Legislators had previously screened the deputy governor-nominee at the assembly complex.
Abayomi Akinruntan, the house’s deputy speaker, submitted the screening report and stated that the nominee had been properly screened and should be confirmed.
Akinruntan stated that Adelami answered all of the committee’s questions in an eloquent manner.
The deputy speaker stated that the nominee demonstrated a clear understanding of the position and possessed the necessary academic qualifications.
After the report was submitted, the house’s majority leader, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, moved to confirm the nominee.
Felix Afe, the lawmaker representing Akoko North-West 2, seconded the motion.
Then, the speaker ruled for the confirmation of Adelami.
