Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has announced Olayide Owolabi Adelami as his choice for the position of Deputy Governor. Adelami, a former Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly and native of Owo, hometown of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, awaits approval from the Ondo State House of Assembly.
Governor Aiyedatiwa took this step after dismissing all commissioners, senior special assistants (SSAs), and special assistants (SAs) appointed by Akeredolu. The new appointees were directed to hand over their responsibilities to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior administrative officers in their offices.
Aiyedatiwa, 59, who assumed the role of substantive governor on December 27, 2023, after Akeredolu’s demise, had previously thwarted an impeachment plot during the ex-governor’s illness.
