Omah Lay calls out colleague for stealing his album idea

He revealed that he initially shared the concept with this unnamed artist because they were planning to collaborate. However, the artist later released an album that mirrored the concept Omah Lay had shared.

Nigerian singer Omah Lay has claimed that a fellow artist he once discussed his upcoming album concept with, ended up stealing the idea for their own project.

Omah Lay revealed that he initially shared the concept with this unnamed artist because they were planning to collaborate. However, the artist later released an album that mirrored the concept Omah Lay had shared.

In an interview on the Zach Sang Show, Omah Lay explained that this experience forced him to re-record his entire album.

“My song ‘Holy Ghost’ represents a new sound I was planning to explore throughout the album, but I changed my mind midway,” he said.

“I shared the idea with another artist, and they went ahead and released an album based on the concept I shared. I had to start over and remake my album.

“He approached me for a collaboration, and I agreed because he’s an artist I admire. I shared the direction I was taking with my music, and five months later, he released an album with the exact sound I had shared.

“I had to go back and rework my album, but it’s going to be the greatest album in Afrobeats history.”
