Off-cycle Elections: NSA assures security, warns against violence

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has issued a firm assurance to voters and residents of Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states regarding the security arrangements for the upcoming gubernatorial elections on Saturday.

Ribadu gave the assurance in a statement by the Head Strategic Communication, Office of the National Security Adviser, Zakari Mijinyawa, on Friday in Abuja.

In his statement, Malam Nuhu Ribadu warned political actors to refrain from engaging in violence and called on security agencies to strictly adhere to their operational code of conduct and uphold professional ethics throughout the election process.

The NSA emphasized that security agencies have meticulously prepared to ensure that the elections are safe, secure, and transparent, in alignment with the directives of President Bola Tinubu.

Malam Nuhu Ribadu, who serves as the Co-Chair of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, also called on all security, intelligence, and law enforcement officers assigned to election security duties to conduct themselves with the utmost credibility.

Highlighting the commitment of the Federal Government, the NSA confirmed that all necessary resources have been mobilized to guarantee the smooth conduct of the elections. He urged all election managers to adhere to the instructions provided by President Bola Tinubu strictly.

Ribadu further disclosed that a comprehensive monitoring system has been deployed to the field to collect evidence of any violence or irregularities during the election process. He warned of severe consequences for anyone found responsible for disrupting the conduct of the elections or abusing their authority.

In his closing remarks, the NSA encouraged voters in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states to turn out in large numbers to exercise their right to vote, assuring them of adequate protection during the electoral process.
