Nollywood producer Imasuen set to remake ‘Issakaba’

The release of the reboot would mark a return to Nollywood's golden era and serve as a bridge between the industry's past and present.

Renowned Nollywood producer/director Lancelot Imasuen, celebrated for his blockbuster movies such as “Invasion 1897,” “Adesuwa,” “The Last Burial,” “ATM,” “Garage,” “Bent Arrow,” and more, is making a triumphant comeback to the industry.

He is set to remake one of his action-packed thrillers, “Issakaba,” originally produced in 2001 with veteran actor Sam Dede.

The anticipation for “Issakaba” has soared as Lancelot unveils a star-studded cast for the reboot.

Industry insiders suggest that the remake is poised to be one of Nollywood’s standout productions this year.

Lancelot emphasized that the decision for the reboot was driven by overwhelming demand from fans across all social media platforms. He expressed that the release of the reboot would mark a return to Nollywood’s golden era and serve as a bridge between the industry’s past and present.

Returning to the project are Sam Dede, reprising his lead role as Ebube, and Chiwetalu Agu. Joining them are Chidi Mokeme, BBNaija’s Phyna, Regina Daniel, Nosa Rex, Iyabo Ojo, Sanni Danger Alex Osifo, popular content creator Mark Angel, and other talented actors, injecting a fresh perspective into the storyline.

Initially produced by the late filmmaker Chukwuka Emelionwu and Moses of Mosco Production, the original five-part movie was a household favorite in the early 2000s.

“Issakaba,” inspired by real-life events, is an action-packed thriller that narrates the activities of a community vigilante group named Bakassi Boys. The group fights against crimes like armed robbery and murder, depicting the struggles of shoemakers in Aba against armed gangs. The shoemakers resolve to fight back, utilizing African power instead of conventional policing methods, achieving the desired results.

Apart from Sam Dede and Chiwetalu Agu, the original movie featured actors such as Pete Eneh, Amaechi Muonagor, Susan Obi, Mike Ogundu, John Okafor, Andy Chukwu, Zulu Adigwe, Diewait Ikpechukwu, Remmy Ohajianya, Emeka Nwafor, Tom Njemanze, Uche Odoputa, and Emeka Ani.

The reboot, titled “Issakaba Returns,” is a collaborative effort between Lancelot Imasuen Media Network Limited, LIAM Studios, WithinDlens Limited, and Laho Music Worldwide Studios Limited.
