Soji Oye, the director of information at the National Judicial Council (NJC), has debunked the news circulating about the resignation of the presidential tribunal judge.
He said the justice of the court of appeal, Boloukuoromo Ugo, has not resigned from the presidential election petition court.
A Twitter user named Umar Sani claimed that Ugo resigned, citing reasons of “demands to knee-cap democracy.”
In the resignation letter, Sani alleged that the judge mentioned being pressured to compromise the judiciary’s independence by ruling in favor of a political candidate believed to be President Bola Tinubu.
“Justice Ugo’s resignation has caused a serious uproar and a setback to the activities of the presidential election petition court,” Sani said.
Speaking to TheCable on Thursday, Soji Oye dismissed the claims as “falsehood from the pit of hell.”
He urged Nigerians to ignore the allegations. He stated that those spreading the rumors are meant to distract and set a narrative in case the court’s judgment doesn’t favor them.
Oye mentioned that the presidential election petition court will release an official statement to address the matter.
‘Tinubu told by CJN to prepare for a rerun of the election’
Ugo’s alleged resignation comes just 48 hours after Jackson Ude, a Twitter user, reported that the president spoke with Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Olukayode Ariwoola about the outcome of the presidential election petition.
Ude claimed that the CJN told Tinubu to prepare for a rerun of the election.
The supreme court’s spokesperson, Festus Akande, said there was “no iota of truth” in the claim.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) also denied Ude’s claim.
Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, candidates for PDP and LP, respectively, are contesting Tinubu’s election victory.
After concluding their respective cases at the election tribunal, Abubakar and Obi recently submitted their final written addresses.
The tribunal has not yet set a date for the adoption of final written addresses and decisions in the petitions.
The APC and the Supreme Court spokesperson, Festus Akande, both denied any truth in Ude’s claim.
Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of the PDP and LP are challenging Tinubu’s victory in the last election.
The tribunal is yet to schedule a date for the final written addresses and judgment in the petitions.
