The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has released Omoyele Sowore, the organiser of the #RevolutionNow Movement.
Sowore was first detained by the NIS at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Sunday, right after his return to Nigeria.
Sowore had been in the United States with his family. His flight left Washington Dulles International Airport at 6:14 AM EDT and arrived in Lagos at around 9:43 AM WAT.
Earlier, he disclosed via his X handle that he had been detained by the Nigerian Immigration Service and that his passport had been seized.
He claimed that no justification was given for his detention, and officials told him that they were operating on orders from higher authorities and needed to contact Abuja for more guidance on the situation.
Sowore later confirmed his release via his X handle, stating,
“I have just been released by the Nigerian Immigration after a brief detention and my passport released back to me. #RevolutionNow.”
