NIPOST staff protest against new CEO, shut down head office

The protesting workers blocked the entry of the newly appointed NIPOST CEO, Tola Odeyemi, expressing their disapproval of her appointment.

Employees at the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) head office in Abuja have staged a protest resulting in the closure of the office.

The protest is against the appointment of Tola Odeyemi as the Chief Executive Officer/Post Master General.

Last week, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson, announced changes made by President Bola Tinubu in the leadership of communication agencies, including NIPOST.

However, shortly after news of Tola Odeyemi’s appointment surfaced, there were reports that Adepoju, the previously removed Post Master-General, had been reinstated.

In a widely circulated video, the removed Adepoju was seen addressing some workers, asserting that President Tinubu had reappointed him. This led to significant confusion within NIPOST.

On Monday, the protesting workers blocked the entry of the newly appointed NIPOST CEO, Tola Odeyemi, expressing their disapproval of her appointment. They voiced their preference for Adepoju, chanting solidarity songs and displaying various placards to demonstrate their opposition to the new appointee.
