Nigerians pit me against other female artists – Tiwa Savage

“Fans always try to pit me against other female artists. Any new female artist that comes up, they would be like, ‘Yo, she is coming to take her throne."

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has claimed that overzealous fans frequently pit her against other female artists.

She mentioned that fans often suggest that every rising female artist is coming to take her “throne.”

However, the ‘Water & Garri’ singer said she makes an effort to befriend the new female artists because she believes music is not a competition.

Savage expressed these views in a recent interview with BET.

She said, “Fans always try to pit me against other female artists. Any new female artist that comes up, they would be like, ‘Yo, she is coming to take her throne.”

“And I would go out of my way to make friends with them [new female artists] because it is not a competition. The real competition are the male artists. I was happy that Tyla, a female artists won the maiden Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys over the male nominees.”
