The Non-Governmental Organisation, Enablers Diaspora Grassroots Support Outreach (EDGSO), conducted a free medical outreach for 1,000 people in Akure, Ondo State.
Speaking at the event on Friday, EDGSO President Mrs. Ayoyinka Wilson, a UK-registered nurse, highlighted the initiative’s mission to positively impact lives and give back to the community.
The 2024 outreach started in Oyo State, moved through Ekiti, and concluded in Ondo, providing medical services to 1,000 beneficiaries.
The program targeted the underprivileged, elderly, and individuals who struggle to afford medical care, offering free check-ups and treatment. Wilson urged participants to take their health seriously, use medications properly, and avoid self-medication. She also provided a health talk and acknowledged the Otunba Yomi Akingbade Foundation for donating food items to the Akure beneficiaries.
“Our goal is to care for 1,000 people. We’re providing multivitamins, paracetamol, and other essential medications, along with food and household items,” Wilson said.
One of the beneficiaries, 67-year-old Mrs. Yemisi Adeyeye, praised the initiative and called on the state government to extend similar outreach programs to rural areas in Ondo.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the event featured blood pressure checks, health education on chronic and preventive diseases, and free medical consultations. Additional services included distributing basic medications, promoting healthy living, and raising awareness of dementia and memory loss.
