Federal government civil servants will begin receiving payments under the new minimum wage structure starting Thursday, September 26th.
This was confirmed by Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, in an interview.
He assured that workers would start receiving salary alerts for the new minimum wage payments from Thursday but did not clarify whether arrears would be included.
Mokwa stated, “Federal Government civil servants will start getting the new minimum wage from today (Thursday), September 2024. What I can confirm is that the minimum wage payment starts today; I’m not certain about the arrears.”
His remarks follow the announcement by Ekpo Nta, Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, who confirmed on Tuesday that the government approved an upward review of the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS) in line with the Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act, 2024.
This came after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of the new N70,000 minimum wage on July 18, 2024, and its subsequent passage into law by the Senate.
