On Friday, the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) took action to eradicate a three-acre cannabis farm in Sayinna town, Sokoto state.
Mr. Adamu Iro, the Commandant of NDLEA Sokoto Command, revealed this information during a briefing held at the state command headquarters on Saturday.
Following intelligence gathering, the command’s officers swiftly moved to uproot the illicit crop, which was concealed within a maize farm. During the operation, a suspect was apprehended.
During the briefing, Commandant Iro highlighted the historical association of Sokoto with marijuana cultivation.
However, he emphasized that the state is actively working to shed this reputation and discourage illegal cultivation.
The suspect, 32-year-old Anas Sani Sayinna, admitted to bringing the cannabis seeds from Lagos six months prior.
“I call on my colleagues and those yet to engage in the cultivation of the drug-related crop to desist, and engage in legal and meaningful ventures that will make them self-reliant and successful.” He said
