NDLEA arrests South African with Methamphetamine Consignment at Abuja airport

On Wednesday, the National Drug Law Enforcement AgencyNational Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) apprehended a 29-year-old South African, Erasmus Jean-Pierre. He stands accused of trying to smuggle 2.6 kilograms of methamphetamine, concealed in his luggage to the Middle East through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

According to a statement issued on Sunday and signed by NDLEA’s Media Officer, Femi Babafemi, the agency not only arrested Erasmus Jean-Pierre, but also successfully confiscated the illicit drug.

The statement further explained that the suspect was apprehended by NDLEA operatives during the passenger clearance process for Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 404, bound from Abuja to the Middle East via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Following a comprehensive inspection of his luggage, authorities discovered a powdery, whitish illicit substance meticulously packed in various sections of the bag, the agency reported.

Preliminary investigations have indicated that the suspect had arrived in Lagos via Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Saturday, August 19th. He then proceeded to Abuja on Tuesday, August 22nd, and took possession of the brown bag containing the illicit drug consignment on Wednesday, August 23rd, before making his way to the Abuja airport for departure from Nigeria.
