Nasarawa: Police nab suspected drug trafficker, recover vehicle, Indian hemp

The suspect, identified as Saturday Gabriel, a 43-year-old male from Edo State, was arrested while one accomplice managed to escape.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized a vehicle along with 15 bags of dry leaves believed to be Indian hemp.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Command’s spokesperson, the arrest occurred on August 31, 2024, around 1:00 pm.

Nansel revealed that the suspect, Saturday Gabriel, a 43-year-old man from Edo State, was apprehended while one accomplice managed to flee.

The police also recovered a Toyota Camry, bearing the registration number Lagos KSF 843 FN, which was being used in the illegal operation.

The arrest was made following a tip-off that a Toyota Camry with two occupants, suspected of involvement in criminal activities, was heading toward the Nasarawa Toto axis.

In response, police officers from the Toto Division were strategically deployed to intercept the suspects.

The vehicle was successfully intercepted in the Gadabuke area of Toto Local Government Area, leading to Gabriel’s arrest and the seizure of the suspected contraband.

Nansel added that the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia. The case will then be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
