Multichoice sets date for 10th AMVCA

In partnership with Africa Magic, MultiChoice has officially revealed the date for the highly anticipated 10th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), set to be headlined by renowned filmmaker Femi Odugbemi as the head judge.

Scheduled to take place from May 10-11, 2024, the event promises to be a grand celebration of African cinema excellence. The AMVCA annually recognizes outstanding achievements in the African film and television industry, providing a platform for talented individuals to be acknowledged for their creativity and hard work.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the African film industry to showcase its finest talent and for audiences to experience the best of African cinema,” stated a representative from MultiChoice.

Dr. Busola Tejumola, the Executive Head of Content and Channels, West Africa at MultiChoice, expressed her excitement about the milestone edition, describing it as a celebration of a decade of brilliance and innovation in African storytelling on screen.

Tejumola highlighted the AMVCA’s reputation as the benchmark for excellence in the African film industry and emphasized the quality of entries received this year, which have posed a challenge to the jury and head judge in their review process.

A notable change for this edition is that the categories of Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress will now be determined by the jury. Femi Odugbemi, acclaimed filmmaker and pioneer Academy Director of the MultiChoice Talent Factory, will oversee the judging process as the Head Judge.

The two-day celebration of the 10th AMVCA will commence on May 10 with events for young filmmakers and content creators, followed by a Cultural Day and Opening Night celebration. The Main Awards Ceremony will take place on the night of May 11.

Speaking on the task before the award jury, Odugbemi expressed their dedication to maintaining the award’s standard of excellence, ensuring that only the most outstanding works earn recognition.
