Makinde Approves RCCG Pastor as Soun of Ogbomoso

The governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of Afolabi Olaoye as the new Soun-elect of Ogbomoso.

Olusegun Olayiwola, the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters, said in a statement released on Saturday that the announcement followed the lengthy procedures outlined in the law.

“His Excellency congratulates the new Soun-elect on his ascension to the throne of his forebears,” the statement reads.

Olayiwola stated that the monarch-elect’s new position requires him to foster harmony among the people and urged Ogbomoso residents to work with Olaoye to achieve a successful rule.

The former Soun, Jimoh Oyewunmi Ajagungbade III, died in December 2021, at the age of 95, after reigning for 48 years.

Afolabi, a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), is a descendant of the late Oba Laoye Orumogege from the Baiyewuwon ruling house of Aremo House, Ode-Aremo, Ogbomoso.

He is the pastor of the RCCG, Jesus House in Washington, DC, USA.
