The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and Nigerian Port Authority team up for a seven-day clean-up in Apapa.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Bolaji Oreagba, reported that the exercise targets illegal structures and abandoned trucks.
He said, “All abandoned trucks from the Nigerian Port’s first gate down to the underneath of the Lilypond Bridge constituting environmental nuisance were all towed by the team. The area is becoming a breeding ground for miscreants who daily extort money from innocent motorists and impede the free flow of traffic.”
The clean-up began with demolitions and towing of abandoned vehicles causing traffic disruptions and breeding grounds for miscreants.
Nigerian Port Authority’s Security Manager, Mohammed Khalil, stressed the importance of this overdue environmental clean-up in Apapa.
The joint effort includes enforcement from police, OP MESA, and Federal Road Safety Corps for effective results.
