Lagos to scale up school feeding programme

The aim is to enhance the well-being of students, boost attendance, and decrease the number of out-of-school children.

The Lagos State Government has pledged to enhance its feeding initiative in public schools throughout the state, aiming to enhance the well-being of students, boost attendance, and decrease the number of out-of-school children.

Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in the state, made this commitment during his visit to several schools to oversee the commencement of the second term for the 2023/2024 academic session on Tuesday.

According to a statement from the ministry, Alli-Balogun affirmed that the state government is dedicated to utilizing its resources to ensure the safety of students and staff in the new year.

He encouraged both teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as students, to strive for excellent performance in 2024.

“The Lagos State government has expressed determination to ensure that the limited resources of the state are deployed for the safety of students, pupils, and school personnel in this new year.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration has reiterated its commitment to upscale the school feeding programme in public schools to boost pupils’ welfare, improve attendance, and reduce the menace of out-of-school children in Lagos State,” stated the commissioner.

Acknowledging the achievements of students, pupils, and teachers in 2023, Alli-Balogun stated that such accomplishments inspire the state government to do more.

He also advised students to avoid drugs, steer clear of cultism, refrain from engaging in gang wars and examination malpractice, suggesting that the energy spent on such vices could be redirected towards co-curricular activities supported by schools and various non-governmental organisations.
