Lagos PDP chairman regains freedom after four days in captivity

Amode did not say whether a ransom was paid to secure the release of the Lagos PDP chairman.

Philip Aivoji, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, has been released after spending four days in the kidnappers’ den.

Aivoji and some members of his political party were kidnapped on the Lagos-Ibadan motorway last Thursday as they were returning from a meeting.

The Lagos PDP chairman had travelled to Ibadan for a meeting with Oyo and Osun state governors Seyi Makinde and Ademola Adeleke, respectively.

Aivoji was released during the early hours of Monday.

In a statement issued on Monday, Hakeem Amode, Lagos PDP spokesperson, confirmed the party chairman’s release.

Amode said:

“Lagos State PDP Chairman released by the kidnappers.”

“Hon Philip Olabode Aivoji, the Lagos State PDP Chairman, is free at last after 4 days in the kidnappers’ den.

“We use this opportunity to appreciate your prayers most importantly because God’s mercies were visible all the way.”

Amode did not say whether a ransom was paid to secure the release of the Lagos PDP chairman.

On Saturday, the Ogun police command announced that a 37-year-old woman, Bilikisu Kazeem, died of a bullet wound sustained during a gun battle between police and Aivoji’s kidnappers on the motorway.
