On Friday, the Lagos State Government announced palliative repair works to be conducted by its Public Works Corporation and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing on the bad sections of the highly busy Third Mainland Bridge.
The State Ministry of Transportation, through its Permanent Secretary, Abdulhafiz Toriola, clarified that the repairs would take place over two consecutive Sundays, September 17 and 24, from 7 am to 7 pm on both days.
In terms of alternative routes, the statement outlined the following:
For motorists coming from the Alapere/Ogudu area of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway heading towards Lagos Island, they will be rerouted towards Gbagada-Oshodi Expressway. From there, they can connect to Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue to reach Eko Bridge and subsequently Lagos Island.
Likewise, motorists traveling from Lagos Mainland via Herbert Macaulay Road (Adekunle axis) toward Lagos Island using the Third Mainland Bridge will be redirected to Murtala Muhammed Way. From there, they can use Carter Bridge to access Lagos Island.
The repairs, jointly executed by the Lagos State Public Works Corporation and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, are a part of a two-phase initiative. The first phase will concentrate on the most critical sections from Iyana Oworonshoki towards Adeniji Adele/Lagos Island.
These palliative works are scheduled on Sundays to minimize disruptions for motorists. Motorists are urged to exercise patience and adhere to safety precautions during the rehabilitation works on the bridge’s asphalt pavement.
