Lagos crushes over 1,500 seized motorcycles

The crushing of the impounded motorcycles signifies the government's commitment to upholding traffic regulations.

In a strict enforcement of state traffic laws, the Lagos State Government dismantled and impounded 1,500 motorcycles, commonly referred to as “Okada.”

The operation, executed by the Ministry of Transportation, took place at the Crush Plant, Taskforce Yard, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, with Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and Permanent Secretary Mr. Wale Musa overseeing the exercise.

Commissioner Osiyemi, addressing the media during the operation, revealed that the crackdown on the motorcycles, accumulated over the last six months, was a crucial step in maintaining zero tolerance for illegal activities.

The Commissioner urged Okada riders to embrace alternative modes of transportation provided by the government, emphasizing plans to introduce more First and Last Mile buses into the metropolis.

Osiyemi underscored the importance of sustaining the enforcement, stating, “I urge the riders to continue to stay off the roads because the crushing exercise and enforcement will be sustained.

“There is no going back because it’s government policy and the government does not joke about its decisions.”

The decisive action taken by the Lagos State Government signals a determined effort to regulate traffic and promote alternative transportation modes, prioritizing the safety and orderliness of road networks in the state.
