Minister of Works, Dave Umahi reacted to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s recent comments regarding the coastal road project, labeling them as a distortion of facts aimed at misleading the public.
Speaking during a visit to the Enugu—Port Harcourt dual carriageway section 4, Umahi condemned Atiku’s lack of understanding of project figures and economic significance. He emphasized the government’s commitment to prudently managing project costs while maintaining quality.
Umahi announced plans to hold a press conference in Lagos from April 10th to 12th, where he intends to present detailed figures and economic benefits of the coastal highway project. He highlighted its role in connecting regions across Nigeria, including the North and South, and announced the commencement of the third project section in Calabar by July 2024.
While commending the progress of ongoing projects, Umahi urged contractors to adhere to timelines. He warned that contractors failing to meet deadlines risk losing portions of projects to others. Despite challenges like material cost inflation, Umahi affirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to efficient project delivery.
During his visit, Umahi inspected various infrastructure projects across Enugu and Rivers states, underscoring the government’s dedication to fostering economic growth through robust infrastructure development.
