Kogi: Usman Ododo sworn in as governor

Usman Ododo officially took the oath of office on Saturday, solidifying his position as the newly elected governor. Ododo, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged victorious in the November 2023 governorship election in the state, securing a significant mandate from the electorate.

The election results, announced in December, reflected a resounding victory for Ododo as he garnered an impressive 446,237 votes. His closest contender, Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), trailed behind with 259,052 votes. Dino Melaye, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), secured 46,362 votes.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, underlining the occasion’s significance. Notable figures in attendance included Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the APC, and Yahaya Bello, Ododo’s predecessor. The presence of these political heavyweights demonstrated the party’s unity and support for the newly inaugurated governor.

In his inaugural address, Governor Ododo expressed gratitude to the people of Kogi State for their overwhelming support during the election.

He emphasized his commitment to good governance, inclusive development, and addressing the pressing needs of the citizens. The governor pledged to work tirelessly to improve infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other key sectors that directly impact the people’s lives.
