The Kano State Police Command has apprehended a notorious bandit, Isah Lawal, aged 33, hailing from the Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna State. Lawal, known for his involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping, and cattle rustling, was captured during an intelligence-led operation led by SP Aliyu Mohammed Auwal and his team.
The operation, conducted on January 4, 2024, in the Karaye local government area of Kano State along the Kaduna-Kano border, resulted in the recovery of 55 cows and six sheeps.
Lawal, a resident of Kaya Village in Giwa LGA of Kaduna State, confessed to fleeing the Maidaro bandits’ camp in Birnin Gwari LGA due to internal conflicts within the gang.
During the investigation, Lawal revealed that he relocated to Kano State, particularly the Gwarzo-Karaye Forest, following the death of one of the gang leaders, Bashir of Malumfashi, Katsina State, during clashes with a rival bandit group.
The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO), ASP Abdullahi Hussaini, confirmed Lawal’s arrest in a press statement, commending the efforts of the Police operatives. The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, has directed the deployment of additional manpower and equipment to secure all Kano State borders.
CP Gumel expressed appreciation for the support and collaboration from the people of the state, urging continued vigilance and prompt reporting of any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
