United States Vice President Kamala Harris has praised President Bola Tinubu‘s economic policies.
Harris called Tinubu on Thursday, the highest-level US engagement since the president’s inauguration in May.
The president announced the elimination of petrol subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange rates in his inaugural address.
Although the announcement resulted in an immediate increase in petrol and transportation costs, some economists believe the new policies will eventually steer the country’s economy in the right direction.
Harris backed the president’s decisions, calling them a step towards economic reform.
“Today, I spoke with President Tinubu of Nigeria about the strong ties between the Nigerian and American people and our shared work on global and regional issues — from defending democracy in West Africa and the Sahel to promoting digital inclusion and economic growth,” Harris wrote on Twitter.

The US vice president pledged support to Tinubu in areas such as private sector investment, women’s empowerment, and clean energy.
Harris emphasized the US government’s backing for Nigeria’s democracy and condemned the coup in Niger, stating that engagement depends on adherence to democratic standards.
