Muyideen Bello, a renowned Islamic scholar and preacher, has died.
Bello, an Oyo native, was admired for his incisive Islamic teachings and unwavering dedication.
The 84-year-old preacher died on Friday, according to Islamic clergy who shared the news on social media.
Kwara state governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed the report, expressing astonishment and profound regret over Bello’s death.
In a statement issued by his chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor expressed condolences to the people and government of Oyo state, the Ansar-Ud-Deen family globally, and the Muslim community.
“The fiery preacher stayed in the national limelight for over four decades as a consistent advocate of Islamic monotheism, piety, civic virtue, and responsible leadership and followership,” the statement reads.
“He kept his honour as a disciplined scholar with mass appeals across social strata.
“He spoke truth to power in a nuanced way that respects sensibilities in equal measures the death of Sheikh Ajani Bello is, indeed, a national loss.
“We ask Allah to ease his accounts, grant him al-Jannah Firdaus, and uphold his family upon the goodness and his fine legacies.”
