Media personality Toke Makinwa recently shared a personal tragedy on her show, recounting the heartbreaking incident of her parents’ death in a fire accident when she was still a child.
She revealed this during a conversation with comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, who had recently experienced a fire incident at his Lagos residence.
Toke, prompted by AY’s own ordeal, disclosed, “I’ve been a victim of a house fire when I was a kid, and unfortunately, both my parents died as a result of that. That’s one of my biggest fears.”
AY expressed his condolences, stating that he was hearing about Toke’s experience for the first time. He then shared details about the fire incident at his own residence in Lagos in August.
Recalling the event, AY mentioned, “I woke up to about 78 missed calls that day. Any time I see something like that, I just know something has happened. I opened my phone and saw my house on Instablog.”
He explained that the fire originated from the rooftop due to an electrical fault, and he was away on tour in Canada when it occurred.
AY expressed gratitude that his family was on holiday at the time but lamented the loss of cash and other valuable possessions in the inferno.
