Halima Abubakar slams AGN president with N30bn lawsuit

Her legal representative demand the immediate removal of the defamatory post from Rollas' Instagram page, along with an unreserved public apology and N30 billion in damages for reputational harm.

Suspended Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has filed a lawsuit against Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), seeking N30 billion in damages following the announcement of her suspension on his social media page.

Abubakar was suspended over allegations of slandering Nollywood. However, the actress expressed her discontent, stating she was never contacted or given the opportunity to address the accusations before the suspension was made public.

In a letter dated October 20, 2024, from her legal representatives, P.D. Pius & Associates, Abubakar accused the AGN President of intentionally damaging her reputation.

“Our client has been struggling with health issues for years, and despite maintaining a professional relationship, you chose this critical moment during her recovery to spread a false narrative. This has caused her emotional distress and has severely harmed her reputation in society,” the letter stated.

The legal team demanded the immediate removal of the defamatory post from Rollas’ Instagram page, along with an unreserved public apology and N30 billion in damages for reputational harm.

The letter concluded with a warning that failure to meet these demands within seven days would result in further legal action.
