Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists have attacked Faudiya Islamic Boarding School in Geidam, Yobe State, resulting in the deaths of three students and leaving one injured.
The Islamic school, which is affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood Movement (Shi’ites), is situated in Geidam, the headquarters of Geidam Local Government Area in Yobe State.
The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force in the state, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident to Channels Television.
He stated that the attackers arrived at the school around 4:00 a.m. today, Friday, August 30, 2024, on motorcycles, armed with AK-47 rifles, and began shooting indiscriminately.
“Yes, there was an attack on Faudiya Islamic School in Geidam, the headquarters of Geidam Local Government Area. The school belongs to the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (Shi’ite),” he said.
“Upon receiving the distress call, police rushed to the scene and discovered that three students had been killed, while one student, who was injured, is currently receiving medical treatment at Geidam Specialists Hospital,” he added.
The victims were identified as Muhammadu Saleh, 22 years old; Ahmed Abdulrahman, 21 years old; and Abdullahi Adamu, 21 years old. The injured student, Sani Haruna, 25 years old, is currently receiving treatment.
Geidam, located 183 kilometers from Damaturu, the state capital, and a border community with Niger Republic, was a significant center of the Boko Haram insurgency in the state between 2012 and 2016. It is also the hometown of the immediate past Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba.
