A group of unidentified assailants has tragically killed a minimum of nine members belonging to a local vigilante organization widely recognized as ‘Yan Ba Beli’ in Bauchi State.
The vigilante group had gained prominence for collaborating with state security forces in joint operations against kidnappers and armed robbers across the state.
The targeted attack occurred within the forest of Gamji village while the vigilantes were on a mission to track down bandits who had been causing terror in the communities of Ningi local government area.
The gunmen staged an ambush on the vigilantes, resulting in the deaths of nine individuals, while others managed to escape but sustained injuries.
A reliable source in the area revealed that the incident took place late Sunday evening when the ‘Yan Ba Beli’ were ascending the mountain near Gamji village during their pursuit of the bandits concealed within the forest.
Upon encountering the ambush, the bandits swiftly opened fire on the vigilante members.
The Caretaker Chairman of Ningi LGA, Hon. Ibrahim Zubairu Mato, confirmed the attack, condemning it and reassuring the community that the government is fully committed to safeguarding innocent lives and properties in the area.
As of the time of this report, the Bauchi State Police Command has not responded to inquiries about the incident, as the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) did not reply to messages sent to his known mobile phone number.
