Gunmen reportedly abducted at least two individuals in the Kurudu area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The assailants invaded the Phase 2 area of the Nigerian Army Post-Service Housing estate around 10 pm on Thursday.
The estate, accommodating serving and retired soldiers alongside civilians, witnessed hours of gunfire during the attack. Residents reported the incident, emphasizing the intensity of the security breach.
Josephine Adeh, the FCT police spokesperson, redirected inquiries to the army for an official response, indicating the seriousness of the situation.
This incident adds to a concerning trend of security breaches and kidnappings in the nation’s capital. On January 5, gunmen targeted a community in the Bwari area council of Abuja, abducting numerous individuals, including a family of six sisters.
Tragically, the abductors recently killed one of the sisters, Nabeeha, purportedly as a warning due to the family’s inability to pay a ransom of N60 million.
Amid the escalating insecurity, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the FCT, sought to reassure residents, urging them not to panic. He emphasized that the government has implemented measures to address the alarming security situation.
“We will do all we can, and we assure Nigerians who reside here that there is no need for panic. We are taking every step to make sure that the challenges are resolved,” stated Wike.
