Giving Tuesday began in 2012 as a simple idea to encourage acts of kindness.

Giving Tuesday Spark Nigeria in conjunction has marked this year’s Giving Tuesday with a ‘100Kidsfor100Trees’ project.

The event took place on Tuesday at the Embassy of Brazil, Abuja.

According to the chapter lead, Hussain Zaguru, the project is an effort to instill a sense of environmental responsibility among the younger generation.

Zaguru said,

“This project has been organised to expose kids to practical knowledge and skills related to tree planting and care, deepening their understanding of ecological systems.”

He added that, “The project was inspired and facilitated by former deputy ambassador of the Embassy of Brazil, Ronaldo Vieira”.

“The project aligns with Sustainable Development Goals 13 (Climate Action) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).”

‘100Kidsfor100Trees’ also aims to foster community engagement in sustainable practices.

One hundred and five (85 physical, 20 virtual) students from five schools and two children’s centres in Abuja were actively engaged to participate in planting 10 different eco-friendly tree species.

The schools include Govt Day Secondary School, Olumawu School, Starfield Starters Academy, Apearl Premier Private School, Centre for Teaching and Learning and Britarch School.

Rotarian Rebecca Ebokpo, President of Rotary Club of Abuja was present as one of the project’s partners at the event.
