Gas explosion rocks market in Lagos, razing seven shops

At least seven shops were engulfed in flames following a gas explosion that occurred in a mini-market in the Ikotun area of Lagos State. The fire erupted at 2nd Junction, Governor’s Road, Council Bus Stop in Ikotun, causing significant damage to the local businesses.

Margaret Adeseye, a Director at the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed that the explosion was triggered by a gas cylinder leakage within one of the shops, resulting in a subsequent blast. The force of the explosion rapidly spread to neighboring shops, totaling seven, prompting an immediate emergency response.

In a statement, Adeseye noted, “Fortunately, there are no reported casualties,” providing a small silver lining amidst the unfortunate turn of events. The response from emergency services and collaborative efforts from various agencies helped prevent potential injuries or loss of life.
