Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara signed the state’s N800 billion budget estimates for 2024 into law on Thursday.
The governor signed the bill 24 hours after presenting the budget estimate to a five-member state House of Assembly faction led by speaker Edison Ehie.
On Wednesday, Fubara presented the budget estimate titled “Budget of Renewed Hope, Consolidation, and Continuity” during the state government’s demolition of the assembly complex.
Fubara expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu “for his special interest in the peace and progress of Rivers State and the bold steps he has taken to revamp the nation’s economy and sustainable development across the country”.
“We are also grateful to the good people of Rivers State and the progressive members of the State House of Assembly for your continuing support and prayer for the success of our administration,” he had said on Wednesday.
During Wednesday’s plenary, Ehie declared vacant the seats of the 27 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Rivers assembly has been embroiled in a crisis over an impeachment plot against Fubara for several months.
Martin Amaewhule, the factional speaker loyal to Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), leads the other faction of the assembly.
