Fire has ravaged the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals company at the Lekki free trade zone in Lagos.
The event was alleged to have happened on Wednesday morning.
The reason for the outbreak could not be determined at the time of this report.
Anthony Chiejina, the company’s Group Head of Corporate Communications, reported the minor fire at the effluent treatment plant.
He said:
“We have swiftly contained a minor fire incident at our effluent treatment plant (ETP), today Wednesday 26th of June. There is no cause for alarm as the refinery is operating and there is no recorded injury or body harm to all our staff on duty.”
The 650,000 barrels per day Dangote Petroleum Refinery began production of diesel and aviation fuel in January.
The first crude delivery occurred on December 12, 2023, while the sixth cargo arrived on January 8, 2024.
The company took a step closer to beginning production of refined petroleum products when it received an extra one million barrels of bonny light crude from the Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC Ltd).
In April, the company began delivering petroleum products to the local market.
