The federal government has upped the new minimum pay for workers from N60,000 to N62,000.
According to Channels Television, the figure was determined on Friday during a meeting of federal government ministers and labour leaders convened to discuss the new minimum wage.
Earlier, after a meeting, Imo state governor Hope Uzodimma stated that the tripartite committee on the minimum wage is close to achieving an agreement.
The governor expressed confidence that a definite agreement will be reached “in a few minutes”.
On Monday, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) went on indefinite strike over the federal government’s inability to satisfy their demand for a new minimum wage.
On Tuesday, organised labour suspended industrial action for a week to allow for negotiations with the federal government on a new minimum wage.
Negotiations resumed on Thursday.
Labour recommended N615,500 and N494,000 as the new national minimum wage, which the government deemed unfeasible.
Meanwhile, governors from the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) have claimed the N60,000 minimum pay for workers is unsustainable.
