FG opts for low-key Independence day celebration

The government is also engaging with labor to address concerns, ensuring the well-being of all Nigerian workers and citizens at large.

Nigeria’s 63rd independence anniversary will be a subdued event without inviting foreign leaders, as stated by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume. President Bola Tinubu has approved a low-key celebration in light of the current economic situation. The theme for the anniversary is “Nigeria @ 63, Renewed Hope for Unity and Prosperity.”

“No world leaders have been invited. This celebration is low-key as I said due to the realities on ground. We’ve not invited foreign leaders. Time would come that we would gather world leaders to celebrate with us. But for now, none,” Akume said.

The SGF assured that although the administration, which assumed office in May, is still young, Nigerians will soon witness policy implementations and project executions. He acknowledged that Nigerians have embraced democracy as the preferred form of governance despite political instabilities in the West African subregion.

Addressing the economic challenges faced by Nigerians after the removal of the fuel subsidy and the impact of the global economic downturn, Akume conveyed that the government is actively working on providing necessary palliatives. The government is also engaging with labor to address concerns, ensuring the well-being of all Nigerian workers and citizens at large.
